The Believers Concert Band is a church/community band formed under the auspices of the Gainesville First United Methodist Church.  The band was founded in 2002 by Dr. Lee Martin Sr. under the baton of Richard L. Petty.  The band has grown from five members to forty-five talented musicians.  The band’s distinguishing feature is its programming which combines popular and light classical music to appeal to the musical interests of a wide audience.  The Believers Concert Band is becoming a well respected musical ensemble that contributes to the community.

Celebrate our 10th Anniversary with a Spring Concert at Brenau University’s Pearce Auditorium on Sunday, April 22 at 3 PM. It is a performance sure to tickle the fancy of all ages with patriotic, Broadway, popular, and light classical tunes that the band has come to be known for. Admission is free so that everyone may enjoy, and donations are always welcomed.

Many of our band members (like me), played in high school or college and then life took over and we put down our instruments for many years – not really having a venue in which to play, except solo concerts in our own living rooms! I personally am so grateful for this opportunity to play again in this fun and rewarding environment. We are all thankful to Dr. Lee Martin Sr. and Richard Petty for having the idea and vision back in 2002 and following through with patience and dedication.

Many more of our members have played for many years, several professionally. They are teachers, composers, worship leaders, and music students. Some drive from all over North Ga to participate. This is a true community band made up of people of all ages from many different churches who just love the opportunity to play and bring this style of music for others to enjoy.

We are thankful to Conductor Richard Petty for his years of service to the band. He has brought enjoyment to so many and raised the level of musicianship of the band over these past ten years.

Thanks also to Beth Bryant, Assistant Conductor of the band for her commitment as well. She brings a fun spirit and professionalism every time she conducts. There are numerous others who help behind the scenes and they are all appreciated.

If you play an instrument, or did once before, and love music, we would love to have you join us.
